I am currently available for teaching drum kit in the Oxfordshire area. Ideally students travel to me, where I have excellent equipment available. I may also be able to travel on request. I am aware that each pupil is different, has different goals, and needs to be taught in different ways. I always make sure I know what the pupil wants to achieve from the lessons, work towards his/her goals and help to push them as far as possible. I am happy to teach pupils to read drum notation, and work through grades if they want to. Some pupils are not interested in reading music, and prefer to concentrate solely on other areas such as technique, groove, independence and stylistic playing. I can cover the following styles:
Ensemble playing is another area I feel is very important. Lessons include instruction in locking in with a bass player, and generally playing as well as possible in a band situation. I encourage all pupils to play as much as possible with other musicians, as this is the best way to understand how drums fit into a musical context. I also have access to several play-along recordings/charts. For more information, please contact me at sam@sammysmith.co.uk, or see the contact page for other methods.
